Influence in action - Engaging with AI in assessments for transformative impact - AI Lunch and Learn 2025-02-28 In-Person / Online

Purpose:
This session will expand on the AI Assessment Scale (AIAS) by Perkins, Furze, Roe & MacVaugh (2024), exploring its significance in shaping AI-integrated assessment strategies.
The session will highlight the content of two newly developed NWU courses:
- The Student Course – AI for Academic and Career Success: Designed to support students in engaging with AI across various levels of assessment while fostering responsible AI use.
- The Lecturer Course: An interactive course that guides lecturers in evaluating their existing assessments and progressively incorporating AIAS levels into their assessment design.
The session will introduce a structured evaluation tool for assessing current practices, demonstrate practical applications of the AIAS, and examine strategies for integrating AI into teaching, learning, and assessment.
Attendees will gain actionable insights to enhance student engagement and embed AI meaningfully into their teaching and assessment practices.
Outcomes:
- understand the AI Assessment Scale (AIAS) and its application in assessment design;
- gain insight into the content and objectives of the NWU Student and Lecturer AI courses;
- learn how to evaluate assessments using a structured tool aligned with AIAS principles;
- explore practical applications of AI in teaching, learning, and assessment; and
- acquire actionable strategies for embedding AI to enhance student engagement and assessment practices.
