Why shouldn't I miss this!

The North-West University and all other Higher Education Institutions are in the waves of change of transformation and the unprecedented times in teaching and learning with the COVID-19 pandemic. As we respond to contextual issues that relate to pedagogic teaching realities, we ought to ask critical questions on what is needed for our teaching staff and students about our teaching approach necessary for 21st-century skills, 4IR, and learning and teaching from a distance.

Purpose of the APD opportunity:

The purpose of this professional development opportunity is to reach out to academic staff to introduce a new programme 'pedagogy' in the Directorate for Teaching and Learning Support, Centre for Teaching and Learning, which will house various forms of activities (for our students and staff) responding to pedagogic needs that are discipline-specific or that may respond to the needs of a particular cohort of students and staff within or across campus sites

Outcomes of the APD opportunity:

At the end of this workshop, the participants/lecturers should be able to:

  • Understand the core pedagogic frameworks and identities for higher education teaching and learning;
  • Show and suggest the applicability of transparent teaching and learning in their teaching practices;
  • Explore transformational learning theories with students as co-creators in the teaching and learning process in higher education;
  • Through an activity, discuss and suggest examples of possible activities in the NWU context, suitable for dealing with and improving pedagogic approaches.

Expectations/ Requirements:

  • Any instructional/academic staff whether (a novice or experienced academic), with a teaching responsibility are invited to participate;
  • Participants must be ready to bring their classroom experiences into group discussions/conversations;
  • Participants are expected to access the link for the APD opportunity sent to their NWU email address, and upon completion, provide feedback on the APD opportunity.
